Border Management
Use Similar Designs
When choosing quilting designs to use in the borders of my quilts, I like to try to keep them similar to the designs I am using in the middle of the quilt. This not only adds a feel of cohesiveness to the quilt, but it’s also easy to do. Having the design already in mind means not having to think of a completely new design.
For example, if you quilted Back & Forth lines in the main area of the quilt, try arranging them a little differently in the borders. In this example, I quilted a Herringbone design in the border (bottom right). It was as easy as quilting the Back & Forth lines (top right) on a diagonal but with some spaces in between.
Or vice versa. If you are quilting a large feather in the border of your quilt, you could use a feather meander in the main part of the quilt.
